PIP-4048MS

The main reason for the existence of our patched firmware for the PIP-4048MS is to correct two bugs in the charging code, which under certain very common circumstances result in stopping charge (going to float) prematurely. This results in wasting your available solar resource, and not using the available capacity of your battery.

But we have also improved the way the display works. There is now a full description of these improvements, here:

Guys comming back to the original question of this thread, appart of those bugs is there any otherreason of not using PIP-4048MS with 18650Li-ion batteries? Appart of possibletemperatures issuesis there a extra security reason of @HBPowerWall using and extra PCM60X charger and setting .5v lower the cut-off of the MPPT inverter charger.

Many thanks in advance

The reason is that the PIP have 1 mppt.... I got 2 pcm60x for instance just to cover the extra solar parts. And then you also in general want some of the devices to cut of a bit earlier. In my case the difference is 0.1-0.2V depending on wires and all.

Its cheaper to buy a PCM60x for extra solar charging than another PIP.

I was only talking about the one me and Peter have. The one with multiple MPPT did not exist when we bought our gear :p

Hi BatteryDIY. No. There is no reason not to use the PIP-4048MS[D|T] with 18650 Li-ion batteries since coulomb and I patched the firmware to fix those bugs.

No. There is no security reason to use an extra PCM60X with the PIP-4048MS.

Daromer, you appeared to be responding to BatteryDIY's questions when you replied "The reason is that the PIP have 1 mppt ...".

Yeah and he refereed to Peters setup that have the PCM in conjunction :) Same as I did in beginning. Could have been miss from my side but thats have I read it.

Yes. I see now, what you were responding to. My apologies.

Many thanks guys for all your reply.

BTW, I am waiting to receive an Easun Power model:ISolar SMV II 5000-48 (Aliexpress link).
So far what I found this modelis the same than PIP-4048GE, I took that model just because it get solar voltages from 150 to 450VDC and yes, I already know I can't put more than one in parallel.

@Weber do you know if it has the same two bugs that you fixed on the PIP-4048MS ? I completely sure your firmware of you version would not work on my unit.

Again many thanks

Hi @BatteryDIY. I don't know for sure whether the PIP-4048GE has the same too-early-float bugs as the PIP-4048MS, but I think it is very likely.

We have made several attempts to tell the manufacturer about these bugs, but have never had any reply. And every time they bring out new firmware, so far, the bugs have still been present. You can easily test for one of the bugs, as described here:
http://forums.aeva.asn.au/viewtopic.php?title=pip4048ms-inverter&p=59896&t=4332#p59896

You are correct that none of our existing patched firmware will work with the PIP-4048GE or equivalent high-voltage-MPPT inverter.

You should also read my analysis of the PIP-4048GE here:
