Hi guys
I found a few of these cells yesterday and are wondering if these are what they use in the tesla packs?
The overall OS diameter is smaller but the length is longer??? Is this due to them having a protection system inside? They don't fit into the battery holders either due to there smaller OSD. Any info on these cells would be awesome.
Cheers

Can't really see the end on the left of the pic, but it does look like there is a double bump. so, maybe there is a protection circuit there.

I guess these were individual cells sold for domestic use (torches etc) and not taken from a laptop or other battery pack????

All the protected cells I've come across have the protection circuit in a disc of metal add on the base of the cell , easily removed with a craft knife , some cells also have a button of metal added to the +ve terminal , once these are removed there is a standard size cell underneath all the ones I've come across ... although some cells are very very slightly fatter...

I'm 99% sure tesla would not use individually protected cells in their packs ...

Are they 17670 instead 18650?

Yep, Those are 17670s instead of 18650s. I've opened a few Dell packs that had those inside. You should not mix those in with your Powerwall build.

Yeah ok peeps thanks for the info.
I did indeed get them from a laptop pack but through away the shroud so couldn't identify the origin....
They seem not to have a protection donut thingy

Yep silly me, noticed that myself :blush:although thecell size number itself went straight over my head, Ihaven't even heard of 18650s until I stumbled across Petes videos on yt a couple months back lol a quick google searchof these cells gave me all the info I needed toolol aMax cap of around 1250mAh I think.....

Has anyone thought about using 17670.
I wouldn't bother personally as they seem a lot scarcer and lower capacity etc.

I didopen a few dell packs to find them recently.
I usually put them aside to go back to recycler

@Wattsup
