Hi I am an electrician who ispassionate about renewable energy, particularly Solar PV. I have 9kW of Solar PV on my roof andam receiving a generous state government feed in tariff of 48 cents. This will run out in 2 years. So i have that time to build my HB Powerwall. Ilove breaking shit down and mucking round with stuff so this mission is right up my alley.

I need batteries though. So any leads provided will be appreciated.I have started putting the feelers out and will keep the community updated with my progress.

I am looking for 20kW at this stage. So thats the goal.

Power to the people.

I am in WA and have been living off grid in a low spec RV. I am looking to get a new caravan and set up a serious PV system. Not sure i like the idea of fannying round with second hand batteries out of dumpsters. What is the smart thing to do ? Buy new ones from China off Alibaba or what?

You can get brand cells from China/Alibaba/ebay and others but in general thats the same price as just going to a proper store and buying like nkon.pl (There must exist one closer to you guys)

Dont go with *fire or any cells that cost like 1USD each and says it has 5Ah. That wont work.

But if you want to go to the best then goe LiFePo4 cells. Either you go with 18650 that you already today can find in premade packs or in other types. Though premade may not be as fun :)

Hi. I am from Australia too, from Perth.

Hi Leah and Muz and daromer, I am getting my batts from pcshops and recycle yards. Lots of hard work though I now have enough now for a 15kWh system with the accepted cellstesting to above 2250mAh each. Ones that don't make that are binned for other projects. Success ratio of accepted cells is 1/4.
Now working on the next 15 kW.

I'm still settling on the hardware and system designto go with the power wall.potentilliay ;Hybrid inverter, BMS, Solar array size.
I all ready have a 9kWsolar array and an SMA 5000TL20 inverteron the house. However due to having the Premium feed in tarring of 48c you are not allowed to have a battery system connected to this. This is obviously because you could theoretically charge at night from the grid at 22c and then feed in at 48c rortingthe system. So I am looking at astandalone system for my workshop/shed to run the pool pump, pool light, garden lightsand shed power. Then when the feed in tariff expires in a few years move it to the house.
