Can anyone recommend me some heavy duty cable cutters? I'm trying to cut 1/0 (53mm2) copper thhn cable. I bought some Capri Tools cable cutters rated for 2/0 copper cable and not only do they not cut the cable, the blade gets totally destroyed after a few cuts. They sent me a replacement pair free and it did the same thing. I could probably cut the 1/0 with it if I pounded on the tool with a sledge hammer...

It's a very simple question. Does anyone have a good cable cutter they'd recommend for large gauge wire?

Thank you!

If you only have a few cables to cut then maybe use a fine toothed hacksaw? Sorry I do not have any suggestion on cutters.

A really sharp katana? ;)

I was actually thinking similar to what you already had. Maybe a different brand, like Klein?

WOW!! That was quick! They didn't even twist at all!

That's battery cable though, with fine strands, so any 9in cable cutters will cut through it like butter. I have some 4ga wires from home depot that had the thick strands, those I struggled with the cable cutters and I won't even consider using them on 2/0.

That is not thhn, He is cutting fine strand wire.
Each strand of thhn is about 4-5 time thicker than what you see being cut in the video.

Dang daromer! that second one is a beast! :p Definitely watch out for those! You sure you don't work for mob in your off time? :p

Ahhh, didn't realize thhn was so thick. *ponders* I think the hack saw might be the better option, then :s

The second one is a beast yeah :D I should probably not tell how I know about em :p

Nah but they are commonly used here. For instance cutting those thick 4g35 cables and other used for household incomming grid power they are used. The fact they have that mechanism that ratchet makes them so easy to use. Though beware of that very fine stranded wire can be a bit trickier to do. Make sure you dont have a doll one doing it :)
