Hi,

I bought some 18650 battery holders that appear to be too loose.

I'm wondering if anyone else has had this problem.

Other than throwing them away, is there any solution?

the following link goes to a brief youtube video that shows the problem.

thanks,
Paul

We're they purchased from the same distributor, at the same time? It's definitely an issue with their injection molding cast.

What you could do to the units that are a little loose is(if you have a soldering iron) get a "pencil tip" make sure it's nice a hot, then touch the inside diameter from the base and drag it outward. This will create two ridges on either side of a channel. That should be sufficient to secure the cell into place

I use hot glue to hold them together when I'm ready to build a pack. Also just a tiny dot of hot glue will make them fit better. I have noticed that different wrap is different thickness and affects the fit as well.

It is quite possible that the "lose" ones are actually for the next size of batter up in diameter. Possibly got mixed in with the 18650 batch by accident. Remember, the 18650 is the measurement of the width-x-height in mm. It's just a standard size for these particular cells. However, there are other cells/chemistries that use a different diameter. I believe there is 20mm diameter cell. You could measure the holder and see what it's measurement is.

However, I agree with Alec about using hot glue. Or the other thing is to take some painters (masking) tape and put a single wrap around the cell and see if that makes it tight.

i noticed something similiar AND different
i suspect it can be the cell that is smaller, some are rated to be 18mm, some 18.5mm, add a little bit of use onto the mold and you end up with loose fits within the same mold with different and/or the same cell-model
